Before anybody gets carried away by our squad players putting 5 past Notts County, remember that Notts had 8 corners to our 3 in that match, and had as many shots, so things could have been very different - especially if we hadn't get those penalties or the sending off.

That side showed more fighting spirit that the first team have been doing recently. If I were Adkins, I'd play keep the same team in the next league match and see what happens. He's clearly nowhere near getting the team or formation right, and that might help. At least it would shake some under-performing "regulars" up a bit, and show that, with the huge squad we have, we've got real competition for places.

Clough has just been sacked. Source: bbc football site. Who next? Warburton?

Early favourites for the job are Nigel Adkins, Gus Poyet and Darren Ferguson, I'd have either of the first two but not Ferguson. Tbh I'd have given Clough at leat one more year. In his first season he got us from the relegation zone to 7th and to the semi finals of the FA cup. This season he almost got us promoted and to the semi finals of the league cup. Yeah our performances weren't consistent this season but we should have sticked with him. MK Dons have stuck by Karl Robinson since May 2010 and it has paid off, we sacked Clough after his first real promotion push which is ridiculous to say the least.

2.) 26 May 2015 09:50:37
I agree. Clough should have been given at least up to xmas and if he wasn't at least challenging for automatic then get rid of him. His tactics at home have been his downfall and he would not change for anyone. He must have been spoken to by McCabe or whoever about his style of play but if he has just ignored their comments its obvious that if he did not get us up this season he would have to go. I personally would prefer Warburton but it looks like he is going to fulham. Want a manager that plays the right players in their right positions and plays two strikers up front, tall ones too. Fast attacking football. MK Dons did it. let's hope whoever we get does that. that's all the fans ask for, attacking football and plenty of goals. Clough was a striker so why did he play negatively.

NC's Derby fixation continues - Shaun Barker latest Ram to be seen at the Lane. No wonder our new kit is a clone of theirs! What's next - a name change to Sheffield Rams?

Just been on Radio Sheffield that McNulty couldn't take his usual place warming the bench today due to a night club injury. Diego recalled from loan to play and only gets 20 minutes as a sub. Porter not used at all. No wonder we don't beat a poor Crewe team if we don't play forwards!

OldLocalBlade

1.) I also think the midfield players need to score more goals. If I was Murphs or Scougs I wouldn't be too happy at my return so far. Higdon has been very unlucky with his injury also. But I would rather us sign a decent striker than play Baxter up there. Clough likes to play one up top so it's inevitable that others have to chip in, especially the midfielders/wingers.

Well, we start the new year with the usual optimistic sounds from the Lane staff, but supporters can only see a big squad with only Sharp you would say is quality.

We've been doing great at the academy and U-21 levels for a few years now, but then let the kids all go to other clubs as we don't give the kids a chance anymore. Now we've let the driving force behind developing those young players, Chris Morgan, go! Unbelievable!

What can we look forward to in 2016? More dodgy defending, poor tactics, more youngsters been shown the door, more old players coming for a last good contract, and watching Chesterfield develop under Danny and Chris. I would not be surprised to see a number of our star kids follow Chris, then thrive at Chesterfield. Bring on the next manager!

Well, now we've got Sammon and Sharp (our new SAS strike force), backed up by Done, Adams, McNulty and Higdon, perhaps we can start deciding which of our bloated number of central midfielders to shed.

I think Nigel will play Sharp and Done up front at the beginning with Sammon just behind em. Adams on bench. Murphy and Woolford on wings. The first few games of a new season brings up some silly results until sides get used to playing alongside each other. Fingers crossed and hopefully we are off to a flyer like Bristol City last season. We now have a couple of powerful strikers, we just need a big central defender similar to Maguire. Roll on 8th August. Up The Super Blades.

There is talk of Mark McNulty being in the squad with a face mask to cover his injuries. I've been thinking about the type of mask - wouldn't it be great if, when we are only drawing 0-0 with 5 minutes left, NC scanned the faces of the subs, and decided to call on Hannibal Lecter, or Conan the Barbarian, or Attila the hun to get a win?

Cantona, Pele, Beckham, and now Nathan Blake!

We hear that our old striker has now joined the big names above, and fellow ex-Blade Vinnie Jones, in becoming an actor.

As you would expect of an ex-Blade, he's good at it, having just won an award! Details at

As we wave yet another of our young players off on loan (deGirolamo to York today), can anybody tell me the last time we sent one of our home-grown players out on loan AND he came back to be a first team regular?

We're supposed to have such good youngsters being developed, but they never seem to make it to be regular first teamers, at the Lane at any rate. Sad.

Le Fondre is apparently surplus to requirements at Cardiff. Perhaps he is a better option

Matt Done's just come in and is scoring, yet NC is already looking to replace him. Diego is going as local young lads don't get chances. If only NC spent his time getting real defenders in instead of converted midfielders, we wouldn't be conceding silly goals after dominating matches.

Very unlikely I know, but perhaps Cloughie is going to put his faith in our own players and see if Che or Diego can become the goalscorer we crave.

I was against us getting rid in the first place. Usual story though - not giving our own youngsters a chance. let's hope we give Che and Diego serious chances up front instead of repeating previous errors.

Can't see it myself. Why would we want another winger - let alone a 29 year old one?

Apparently, we nearly signed Andy Williams. The changing-room Karaoke would have been interesting, with him and Lou Reed!

Someone who will give young players a chance - and has a track record of getting the best out of players and winning promotions - and who is as passionate as our fans - step forward again a certain Mr.Warnock!

Doubt if he will come back, at least as Manager. Tempt him with the task of promotion and grooming Morgan as his successor, and a role as Director of Football when he hands over to Chris.

No, we don't need him, or anybody else, for that matter! We've got a strong squad of 24 already, not counting the youth lads who played for the first team last season, thanks. The manager has already brought 11 new players in - give them a chance before asking for yet more new faces!
